Fixed a silent payment-form failure on a membership site

Problem

Customers updating their card on file intermittently hit a dead error page, a timing race between the membership plugin and an external payment script that had no fallback when the script loaded late.

What I did

Reproduced the race on demand by forcing the script delay, then built a custom guard plugin that detects the failure and shows a clear retry instead of a dead page.

Diagnosed a store showing no shipping options and $0 tax

Problem

Three conflicting shipping plugins, a tax-automation plugin with no API key silently zeroing every order, and products missing weight data blocking live carrier rates.

What I did

Removed the conflicting plugin, reconfigured tax calculation natively, built proper domestic and international shipping zones, and backfilled product weights.

Fixed an invisible navigation menu hiding on hover

Problem

Header menu items and an account link were disappearing on hover, a color collision hiding in years of unscoped Customizer CSS with no error to point to.

What I did

Forced the hover state in DevTools to find the winning rule, then scoped the selector down instead of deleting it, preserving the original fix's intent elsewhere on the site.

Do you build custom plugins from scratch, or only modify existing ones?

Both. I build bespoke WordPress and WooCommerce plugins from the ground up when nothing off-the-shelf fits, and I extend or fix existing plugins when that's the faster, cheaper path. I'll tell you honestly which one your case needs before you commit.

How do you charge — hourly or fixed price?

Both, depending on the work. Well-defined builds get a fixed quote after I audit the requirements. Open-ended debugging or ongoing work is hourly. Either way you get a written scope first — no vague estimates, no surprise invoices.

Will the code be maintainable by my own team later?
